La Hirondelle 10

In France the 'rules,' for queuing, most closely follow those of the board game 'Snakes and Ladders.' With every possibility, of slithering down a snake, if basic defensive precautions are not taken. There is however one exception: the baguette queue. Queue length being the surest guide to the quality of the wares, on offer within. In these queues, the late arriving opportunist may stride purposefully up to you. But will ask whether you are queuing and meekly join, behind you, on recepit of a "Oui, j’attend.”

For all its bustling ferry and liner quays, Cherbourg retains the more intimate ambience of a much smaller town.

Warrens of winding backstreets, little changed in a century or more, lead inshore toward the main shopping streets.

Exuding Gallic style. With their tall shuttered windows.

And pastel facades.

An inshore eddy of tide, which has served Stargazer well in the past, turns west around ten in the morning tomorrow. Hopefully allowing time for a bout of 'flu, which has struck me down this last forty eight hours, to pass. For a fair breeze is forecast.
