The Scheveningen regatta is on. A gentle breeze blows innocently from the south. Crews ready their boats for the day's racing.
Yesterday's maelstrom seas have calmed. It is time for sailing craft to spread their wings.
Friends, from the days of rafting, clamber aboard Stargazer. They make easy work of moving her to a berth on the, temporarily empty, race pontoon. The southbound cruisers are released and head out to catch their fair tide, if not a fair breeze.
Garth Cooper (author of the East Coast pilot) takes our lines. We exchange cruising tales in the sunshine before he heads off, aboard his new boat Morven.
Stargazer too readies to take to the wing and depart Dutch waters. We sail this afternoon, hoping to reach through the night under cruising chute.
