Dandelion 25

Twenty seven hours, from leaving, Stargazer's mainsail is back aboard. Repaired. The leech line diameter increased, from 3mm (900kg breaking strain) to 4mm (1500kg breaking strain). The reason for its failure still a mystery. The old line retained, for testing by its manufacturer, on return to the UK.

Next morning, the gale is past. The wind light enough to bend the sail on; and to carry out a test hoist. To check that I have re-rigged the reefing lines correctly. For once, I have.

It is time for an unhurried baguette run. At leisure to take in the delightfully rock-strewn view, across Morlaix Bay, as I go. Stopping off, en route, to buy plump, ripe, tomatoes at the Wednesday market.

Able to linger on the harbour front. All pressing matters struck off Stargazer's 'to do' list.

In our first Breton town, of this year's cruise. Which, despite the ferry terminal and marina complex, a mile to the south, still retains a rustic fishing port feel. With pot boats on the quayside. . . . .

. . . . and the streets lined with characteristic, stone built, slate roofed, houses.
