La Hirondelle 66

Moules and frites are served, to all comers. Eaten at rows of trestle tables, in the church square. Which fill in a late rush.

Once an hour long downpour clears the bay. The sun breaking through. As if by way of an apology, for the rude interruption, to Le 14 Juillet celebration.

Before setting behind the stage. Which the replete revellers now mass around, their revolutionary fervour undampened.

As the band launch into their set, of family friendly anthems. With sing along choruses. On this most egalitarian and fraternal of occasions. Celebrating the liberation of a nation, from rule by royal whim.

The tempo rises as midnight approaches. In preparation for a firework spectacular, above the sea wall. To commemorate the uprising, which founded La Republique Francaise.
