Dandelion 80

The dawn decision is swiftly made. Today: winds light and contrary. Tomorrow: (the forecast of) a twenty knot breeze, on the quarter.

There is time, after all, to perch upon a sea smoothed rock. Surveying the outer estuary.

Whilst enjoying the gossip of the oyster-catchers.

At my back, the ancient stone walls of the Port Louis Citadel.

Beyond them, the dour cement submarine pens, of the Nazi occupation. Now the heart of French solo offshore racing: 'La Base.'

Romain Attanasio's IMOCA, last sighted on the Les Sables d'Olonne finish line, today test hoisting her mainsail, at the dock. Taking advantage of the light airs.

La Base is the home berth for the majority of the ULTIM  fleet. As well as many of the IMOCA teams. Which explains yesterday's sighting, of the joyriding Sodebo, off Groix.

With the breeze up tomorrow, further visual treats could be on the cards. Perhaps even an IMOCA, in full foiling flight, at thirty knots. Preparing for the Vendee Globe race.
