Zen Again 144

My phone rings. With the message that I have been waiting for. Stargazer's new batteries have been delivered. I hurry over to the Capitainerie to collect them.

The afternoon passes in a flash. Literally, in the early stages of the battery swap: I had realised that, instead of disconnecting all cross connecting cables from the post clamps, I could simply release the post clamps, with cables still attached. This strategy had the benefit of reducing room for reconnection error. But, the downside, as I discovered, of leaving unweildy cable bundles dangling. Which impeded battery removal. During the ensuing struggle, a cable shorted one of the original batteries. Emitting the kind of sizzling spark that is usually the preserve of arc welding. With a scorch mark to match.

Fortunately no harm appears to have been done to Stargazer's systems. All of which have restarted normally. Giving her skipper cause for celebration. With a substantial slice of flan aux pistaches added to the supper menu, during the evening baguette run.

    1. Can't beat pistachio based confectionary! Most relieved that the battery swap went smoothly, in the end. Looking forward to getting back on the move. Once Erin has had her fun.

    3. Yes, very glad to be tucked in Cherbourg. Even the Customs Cutter has been driven off station today - and is having a rough time of it, in the outer harbour (latest post). We have shelter, groceries, laundrettes and easy courier drops here, behind the inner wall. The Good Life! None of which would have applied at Dielette. Which is notoriously prone to surge, when there's any west in the wind, has no shops and is (probably) difficult for courier deliveries. Plus there'd still be the Alderney Race to pass. Glad I picked up that forecast update, off Jersey.
