Living the Dream Cruise 2012 live update 36

Sun 3.6.12: La Trinite sur mer. Overnight Sauzon had filled up with local boats out for the weekend. A westerly 6 drove a refracted swell in and got the boats swinging. By breakfast we crew were all well acquainted! Local advice was that in this weight of wind I should only attempt the Teignouse Passage at slack water. That cut short exploring Sauzon. Good advice. Stargazer rode a big and, at times breaking, swell under full main and no jib: (good forward visibility for picking out the channel marks and easy to gybe controllably as we threaded the rocks). She surfed and she flew. The last time I had a sail like that I was on my Laser!
The wind was (literally) howling across the pontoons when we got to La Trinite. The last up tide berth was starboard side to and the wind would be blowing us off. This was going to be tricky. I swung Stargazer in fast to keep the keel biting. Peter, from Camaret, materialised on the pontoon and held her bow while I got the lines ashore. Ashore in La Trinite: gateway to Carnac to the west, Morbihan to the east.

  2. Thanks for making us share your trip to Brittany. Sailing single handed ? Will be pleased to meet you in Pornichet next week-end if you follow to the east. Pierre HR 310's lover

  3. Thanks Pierre. I do plan to head on probably as far as La Rochelle. So I'll be passing through Pornichet. It would be fantastic to meet up. I'm travelling slow though! Some exploring to do in the Golfe du Morbihan first. Likely to be 2-3 weeks before I get to you. Do lets meet up though. Will try to give an idea of when Stargazer will get to Pornichet in my daily updates as we leave Morbihan. We can figure out arrangements from there if that suits you?
