La Hirondelle 37

Towers, minarets, jutting gables, half timbered upper stories, signs and symbols all jostle for space, in a crowded sky.

As modern Vannes goes about its business on mediaeval streets.

The view from Stargazer's cockpit is of the seaward city gate.

The Porte Saint Vincent. The mariner's entrance, of old.

Legend has it, that the Saint's raised hand holds the waters, of the Morbihan, at bay. Should it ever be lowered, the city will be inundated.

The ancient walls are filled to bursting. Buildings sprout from within.

Before them lies stately, manicured parkland. Geometrically planted. Crossed by gridiron gravel pathways.

Tall slender gateways, tailored to the needs of the traveller on horseback, pierce the thick walls at intervals.

Providing tantalising glimpses, of the magic which lies within.
