La Hirondelle 89

Fog billows in from seaward. The harbour wall is barely visible. Ships’ horns are lowing, in the Rade de Brest.

It engulfs the expectantly raised jibs, of the dockside cranes.

And Plays hide-and-seek, with the castle battlements, on the cliff top.

Whilst the sun beams down within the Port of Brest.

As La Recouvrance comes alongside the quay.

Tomorrow’s forecast is for clear visibility, and eighteen to twenty knots of westerly breeze. With eight hours of fair tide available. If Stargazer can maintain sufficient speed to stay with it, as it ‘refreshes’ northward beneath us.
