Across the rooftops, I can see a fleet of dinghies. They are barely moving over the waters of the bay. Today our faithful afternoon breeze is blowing only lightly and from the north.
But tomorrow, or Wednesday, it is expected to remember its westerly ways ; and to meet a north westerly breeze, fanning down from the Gironde, somewhere off Arcachon.
This could still give Stargazer reaching (cruising chute carrying) conditions, if we angle well out into the Bay of Biscay, whilst the breeze is from the west.
Today I am circling the city walls. In parts they are clearly mediaeval. With time worn stones and towers of a rounded design.
In other places, the rich and powerful, of their day, have repurposed the stone and appropriated the vantage points, to build themselves villas.
Yet other sections of the wall, show a more straight edged design. Age has still taken its toll, but perhaps a few less centuries have passed since these sections were erected.
I return to the cool of the streets within . . . . .
. . . . . . to find myself in a leafy plaza. Where musicians play. . . . . .
. . . . .and children dance, carefree.
