Guy Cotten, the French nautical clothing company, manufactures its products in Concarneau. Where its head office is also located.
Their 'vetments marins' are of a different stripe, to those sold in the boutiques.
Within the Ville Close.
Where sightseers dally over a long lunch.
Before indulging in an afternoon of retail therapy. Surrounded by choice.
And mesmerised, by enchanting surroundings.
Guy Cotten's roots lie in the supply of foul weather gear, to the fishing industry. A business which they dominate to this day.
Their garments are renowned, for being as rugged as Breton granite. Recently, breathable fabrics, and sailing specific designs, have been added to the range.
In the eight years since I bought them, the price of my Musto MPX has doubled. Notwithstanding a 'suit deal' discount. And, durable though my MPX have proven, they are nearing the end of their life.
Guy Cotten's factory shop, on the fish dock, provides my opportunity to investigate an alternative. Armed with a discount card, from the Capitainerie, and a 'nothing to loose by asking' negotiating position, I pay it a visit.
Guy Cotten quality and fit proves to be a match for my Musto’s. The asking price is a bit below that for the Musto 'suit deal.' After a little negotiation, a Guy Cotten suit is mine. For half the full price, of a replacement Musto MPX suit.
It is time to move on. Hoping, that my Breton foul weather gear will spend the summer hanging, below Stargazer’s decks.
