Zen Again 89

The billion euro Beneteau empire, spawned by trawling for sardines under sail, may be the biggest business story in town.

But, the sardine fishery still represent a significant source of income, for Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie. The delicacy served up grilled, fresh off the boats, beside the fishermen's dock.

Or auctioned daily. Before being loaded onto refrigerated wagons and driven inland, for processing.

Some later returning, in decorative roll top tins, as part of the Port La Vie welcome pack.

By eye, pot boats greatly outnumber sardine trawlers, at the quayside.

However, what the trawlers lack in numbers, they make up for in size.
