Espana 5

The harbour lies silent. in the still of a Saturday morning.

The beach, as yet, deserted.

Boards lounge against the sea wall, awaiting riders.

First to stir are the anglers.

Streaking off across the bay, as a sea breeze begins to ruffle the water.

By early afternoon, the sea breeze is in full force. Ushering boats, out for the weekend from Santander, around Punta del Fraile's craggy tip.

They reach in, beneath the towering technicolour cliffs.

The turrets, of the gun battery, standing smartly to attention above them.

To anchor off the waterfront of Santona. Its regimented skyline marking it out as a former garrison town.

The timing of  'the locals' passages (to make the most of the sea breeze) is a factor to consider, in these (touch wood!) settled high pressure conditions. As Stargazer prepares to head east, to explore the autonomous Spanish community of the Basque Country.
