En France 79

Runners reach the finish line, cheered on by the crowd. Some whooping with joy.

Others, with less breath to spare, smile in triumphant satisfaction.

There is a festive atmosphere on the St Peter Port waterfront. The main street is thronged, not with traffic, but with stalls, for this, the Guernsey Marathon.

The theme is 'Eat Drink & Be Local.' Which translates, the morning's exercise done, into enjoying a long Sunday lunch, selected from the stalls, seated at tables set out around the harbour.

Whilst seranaded by a succession of live acts.

Their volume and tempo increasing as the afternoon progresses. And the beer and cider barrels empty.

Stargazer has adjourned to the outer harbour. Set for a swift start, before the inner harbour cill clears. For tomorrow the tide comes fair, to ride the Alderney Race.
