Fireworks flower in the night sky, above the port. Illuminating the very mountain peaks.
On a coast whose circadian rhythm is shaped by its climate :
Streets are all but deserted, during the heat of the day.
Shops, for the most part, closed from around two pm. Reopening from five to nine.
Only the international tourist attractions (and supermarkets) trade throughout the day.
Pedestrians venture out anew, once shade reclaims the sun scorched streets.
Taking an evening meal, between eight and ten, as shadows lengthen and appetites return. Before, perhaps, heading across to the Portugalete shore.
Where the nightly festivities begin, any time between eleven and midnight.
In a release of music, energy and light, which lasts into the cool of the small hours.
