La Hirondelle 40

The orca, with the penchant for rudder wrecking, lie in wait to the west of the Strait of Gibraltar. Sinking some, disabling many, of the sailing boats which seek to pass. For reasons known only to themselves.

"Attacks are a daily occurence," say Daryl and Shirley, who overwintered in Alcaidesa. Instead of cruising the Canary Islands, this summer, they have decided to stay within the Mediterranean. Currently bound for the Balaerics, aboard their Bavaria 42 Dream Catcher.

Meanwhile, for Peter and Heather, aboard Swede Star 37 Suive, their cruise of South Brittany is ending. They are making for Falmouth, via Brest. There to entertain the grand children over the summer holidays.

We first met in Concarneau. Since then our paths have crossed in a frequent, ad hoc, manner. Usually at the most opportune moments; when assistance has been welcome easing, either Stargazer or Suive, in or out of an awkward berth.

Stargazer's extended stay, beneath the historic walls of Vannes (courtesy of a combination of the sights on offer and a 'bon prix,' granted by the Capitainerie), will soon be over.

If the weather remains settled, the anchorages of the Morbihan and Quiberon Bay beckon.
