We hang in limbo. Suspended, between the seasons of summer and autumn, by the thread of September.
Geographically too, Stargazer lies on the cusp. Between Biscay, with its prevailing north easterlies, and the Channel, with its prevailing south westerlies. The former a headwind, when homeward bound ; the latter a fair wind.
Since Stargazer's arrival, in Brest, the breezes have held to their northerly Biscay headwind habits. Too light for passage making, whatever their direction. A deep low, heading south from Scotland, will change that scenario. Sending the wind into the west or southwest. Possibly at gale force ; but maybe at a more manageable strength. Predicted day of arrival varies with each morning's forecast. Much is uncertain.
For now, we sit tight. I take advantage, of having all the services of a city centre, a short stroll from Stargazer's berth.
Clearing a backlog of laundry items which are too large to wash and dry aboard : sheets, duvet covers, towels and the like.
Fitting in a hair cut, while the washing machine does its work. And touring the 'soldes' (sales), in the many clothes shops. whilst the drier completes the task.
Replacing my, three polo shirt and a pair of shorts, summer sailing wardrobe in the process.
Stargazer and her skipper are ready to sail, when our weather window appears.
