En France 74

Stargazer's colourful casualty has made a full recovery ; and today flew the coop. Its convalescence apparently complete, after a morning spent sunbathing on deck. The Small Tortoiseshell fluttered aboard, exhausted, off Ile Vierge, during Saturday's passage.

Taking shelter inside Stargazer's windscreen. Standing almost motionless there, for the remainder of the day. With only an occasional open and close 'clap' of its wings, or quiver of its antennae. Remaining alert enough, however, to quickly cast a questing proboscis over a helping of diluted honey.

Yesterday morning I feared the worst. Waking to find Stargazer's newest crew member recumbent. But, as the sun strengthened, the wing 'claps' resumed. The butterfly alighting eagerly on a fresh drizzle of breakfast honey.

It is a short walk, past the bustle and tannoy 'bing-bongs' of the fish dock and the ferry port. . . . .

. . . . .over the fields and into the slow beating heart of 'old' Roscoff.

Where trawlers loll against the rough stone quays, waiting for their tide.
