En France 70

It has taken all morning, to manhandle the new sails aboard, the racing trimaran, French Touch. Now the crew has hit a snag.

No matter how much tension is wound onto the halyard, the luff, of the largest of the 'A' sails, will not fully tension. A solution is pondered, whilst perched on the mirror polished bow.

The breeze is down, from the Beaufort seven gusting nine of much of the past week, to a seven gusting eight. Tempting the racers out, into the Rade, to test out their storm staysails and deepest mainsail reefs. First to go are a pair of Pogo 36's.

Not to be outdone, a crew of four board a Class 40 (usually sailed solo). Waved off by a band of well wishers.

They neatly spring the broad beamed boat off the pontoon. To which it is resolutely pinned by the force of the wind.

Then rocket off, into the Rade, under staysail alone.
