En France 67

Sailors' tales are told, on streaming pontoons. Between buffeting squalls.

A local club's end of season supper cruise, the seven miles to the restaurants of Camaret, has been transformed into a storm struck adventure.

Returning boats battle their way up the Rade. Testing conditions are served up, beyond the harbour walls. Despite being sheltered from the wind, by the surrounding land, and from the seas, by the Goulet de Brest.

Fettling is the order of the day, for those of us who have chosen to stay in port. Aboard Stargazer, I have been poring over the tidal atlas : Bound east, it looks to be possible to carry a fair tide from Brest to Roscoff. If a six knot average can be maintained. Saving a stopover in L'Aber Wrac'h.
