Dandelion 101

The world, his wife and her dog, seem to be in St Peter Port for the weekend. Their children too. The harbour as thronged with boats, and as alive with activity as I can remember.

The age profile, of owners, and their accompaniment by teenage crews, supplies a clue, as to the reason. Other than the atmospheric charm of our surroundings. Across Europe, it is school holiday season.

The usual 'silver top' cruising couples, and solo sailors, are still in port. But their numbers are now swelled, by those still working or studying. Creating an ever shifting marine jigsaw puzzle. For the harbour crew, in their dories, to assemble. Into a picture, which reflects the harmonious tranquility, that we have all come here to enjoy.

Each evening, new arrivals raft up, in the outer harbour. Hoping for the chance to 'go in.' And the harbour filling ferry makes her stop, amid the multilingual melee.

Stargazer was fortunate indeed, to secure the last of the fingers, in the early hours of Friday morning. Thus providing the peace of mind, which comes with a fixed berth. As we await tomorrow's arrival, of the Marine & General engineers. To tend to Stargazer's recalcitrant water system.
